Synopsis

"The Heart of the Matter" Multiple stories set in the Wild Cards universe. Like the books, the stories connect to one another. The memorial to Jetboy, aviation hero who attempted to prevent the September 15, 1946 release of the Wild Card virus, is bombed. Ace detective, Jay "Popinjay" Ackroyd is hired by Doctor Tachyon to investigate. Doctor Tachyon explains how he is indirectly responsible for the release of the Wild Card virus on Earth. Eddy Shiloh tells Popinjay about Dr. Tod, the discovery of the Wild Card virus bomb and the death of Jetboy. Chrysalis takes Popinjay on a tour of Jokertown that reveals no information. Meanwhile a bomb is ticking in a bar high atop The Empire State Building.
